Statement of Assessment
My definition of Communication
Communication is the co-creation of information between two or more independent parties through a common system of delivering and receiving verbal and nonverbal messages using signs and symbols. Through this constantly evolving process, a shared meaning can be created.

Value of a Communication Degree
Obtaining a communication degree is often undervalued or misunderstood by the rest of society. If you think about it, our entire lives revolve around communication, considering we use it on a daily basis. Understanding people's behaviors, backgrounds, and communication styles are the keys to communicating effectively and helps you know what drives certain people, which is necessary in any workplace. Having a degree in communication gives me the opportunity to teach, practice, and connect with people in and outside of the workplace using my communication skills.

Value of an Umbrella Department
The value of being a part of an umbrella department gives you an infinite amount of possibilities to explore your interests and skills. The communication department has offered opportunities to discover your passions and helps you find where you’ll fit in best. With so many different careers to explore, an umbrella department creates students who will have developed many different skill sets that will be beneficial in the workplace.

Why I am a positive representative of PSU Communication Department

I believe I am a positive representative of the Department of Communication here at PSU because of my gradual development within the field. I feel that my work shows my growth and the knowledge I gained while here at PSU. I also believe my academic success in the classroom represents my advisors and professors well within the department. I maintained a 3.5 and higher GPA and made the Dean’s Scholastic Honor Roll throughout my two and a half years here as a student. I am grateful for the relationships and education that the Communication Department has given me and will continue to use it as a beneficial light in society.
